When I lived in Ohio I used to go through quite a bit of cars. I would buy a used car that I really liked then get bored with it and sell it. Then I would find another car that I really liked and buy it. And you know how it goes, I kept doing the same thing every few months.
You might think doing that would get old. But it didn't bother me too much. Everybody at the Title Bureau knew me by name. I couldn't help it, I liked all kinds of different cars. Also, if I was driving down the road and there was a car for sale with minor mechanical problems, I would buy it.
I would buy the broken down cars, buy the parts for it, and fix it myself. I have always liked doing work on cars. So I figured I could also make a few bucks. After I fix the cars I would sell it and make some pretty good profit.
One day I got a letter in the mail from the government saying I would have to get a dealership license if I wanted to sell another car in that year. I guess in the state of Ohio you are only allowed to sell like 6 cars a year. If you want to sell any more than that you would have to get a dealership license to sell cars like the big car dealerships do!
I only 6 cars in a 10 month period. I did not think it would be a problem. But I guess it is. So if your are like me and like to buy cars, fix them up and then sell them every once in a while, you might want to check with the BMV and see how many a private seller is allowed to sell in one year.
