Most of the time when people rotate or change their tires they always tighten the lug nuts as tight as they can get them. Well did you know that over tightening your lugs nuts is the number one reason to why your brake rotors warp. There is a right and a wrong way to putting on the lug nuts.
Warped rotors will cause many different problems to your car. It will cause your pedals to pulsate and it can increase your stopping distance. It will also cause your brake pads to wear faster.
Over tightening your lug nuts is also a great way to break your wheel studs. I have had that happen to me and let me tell you, that can be quite a pain in the ass to replace them. The stud itself doesn't cost any more than a few dollars, but if you can't change the studs yourself, than your spending close to $75 and up.
So the best way to tighten your lug nuts is to first but the studs on hand tight. Never use any grease, oil or anti-seize on the lug nut. Lower your jack low enough that your wheels are just touching the ground. Set your torque wrench to one half of the specified torque. Tighten each lugnut to that setting. Then you can fully lower your car off of the jack. Now that they are tightened to half the specs you need to reset your torque wrench to the full specified torque and tighten each lug nut.
